For the first time ever, Riyadh will host Georges Bizet’s masterpiece opera Carmen, as the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) welcomes the China National Opera House (CNOH) for an exclusive series of performances. This exceptional cultural milestone forms part of the 2025 China–Saudi Arabia Cultural Year, celebrating 35 years of diplomatic partnership.
First performed in 1875, Carmen is a globally revered four-act opera, portraying the complex love story of Carmen, a bold and free-spirited gypsy, and Don José, a soldier entangled in a turbulent romance. Its themes of love, freedom, passion, and betrayal continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
Organised by CNOH in collaboration with RCRC, the event highlights Riyadh’s growing status as a cultural destination under Saudi Vision 2030, showcasing the city’s ambition to host internationally renowned productions and foster global artistic exchange.
